Andreas Diary No. 22 – July / August 08

Busy Times, The last few weeks have been nothing short of manic – in the best possible way though – with two great photo shoot opportunities.Firstly there was

“Daytime Rubber”

Now - as always I can’t give too much away just yet until the pictures are published – but I can give a sneak photo preview and details of the shoot – which of course started as soon as I left Josie at Adam & Eve and teetered a few yards up Brick Lane – almost on A&Es doorstep there are great opportunities to do professional photos within an urban back drop – OK that’s posh for a bit of corrugated metal sheeting.

That day I had to do three changes of outfit – all rubber – and all in the hot midday sun – so whoever thinks this photo stuff is glamorous and easy then think again – but it is incredible fun! (Oh and the outfits were real head turners for passing traffic!)

The second and third outfits were shot inside and outside the Verge Bar across the main road from A&E, who opened up the bar just for the shoot – so many thanks to Mark and the crew – and needless to say if your thinking of going to A&E one evening, then do go across to the Verge for a drink or longer as they are really welcoming and TGirl friendly.

It will be of no surprise to regular readers to know that one of my outfits was the white rubber Marilyn Monroe dress – see preview photo.

Secondly – “St Trinians”.

This has been almost 6 months in the making – starting off with emails to the production company of last Decembers film release and subsequent discussions with Ealing Film Studios. It’s incredible how long these things can take – and that’s with not even finding a venue for the shoot. Here came a real stroke of luck – as just around the corner from A&E (5 minutes teetering distance) or 3 minutes if you’re not in my 6” heels is the Rochelle School. This was a real Victorian era school that for many years lay derelict and only recently transformed into a series of workshop studios, an exhibition hall and cafe, all run by the A Foundation who are principally based in Liverpool and now have set up the Rochelle site as their London base.

The location however retains its old school charm – including the Hockey field (well area of grass anyway) and rooftop playground. They were up for our TGirl shoot and in my usual Andrea attire Andy Barker and I went round to meet them a few weeks ago and set up the date for the shoot. With a casting call now on the A&E website which soon became quickly filled (thanks girls – you know who you are) it was just a case of getting it all together.

A final touch was when Josie and I visited Ealing Film Studios to collect the Hockey Sticks used in the film just to give things that extra authentic touch. As usual I could not resist the Andrea opportunity so Ealing also got the full heels and micro skirt treatment, which was great when we met Jules from their office for a quick photo under the school name board used in the film.

That’s not to say things were not mad enough behind the scenes with uniforms, the St Trinians logo we had printed for each girls blouse and Josie having to do 10 makeovers in 2 ˝ hours! Oh and a group of the girls going round to the school the day before to chalk slogans on the playground wall – a wonderful idea from the people at the Rochelle School.

And yet despite all the six months planning – a photo shoot in June – and you guessed it the weather was appalling – rain and more rain forecast. Our photographer – Andy Barker was getting electric shocks from her flash gun – gives you some idea!

But it was great fun – and every girl said how much she enjoyed it and can we do it again. Next Year who knows – we are already trying to think of a suitable theme – any suggestions?
